Jamberry Nails are coming to Canada!!

Did you know Canada.. this is BIG BIG news!  Jamberry Nails officially launched in the U.S. in 2011 and became a multimillion dollar direct selling company.  They are now arriving in Canada as of September 1st!

You apply Jamberry nail wraps yourself at home in just minutes. They are a solid film covering so they don't chip or scratch like nail polish.  They are even surviving the summer with 3 kids, with polish I can't even get 24 hours without a chip, so that's telling you something.  Lasting up to two weeks on your fingernails and eight weeks on your toes.  And they are BEAUTIFUL!  The style options are absolutely endless!

I am on my second set now and I can't even begin to tell you how many compliments I am receiveing, absolutely everywhere!  When grabbing my coffee at Timmies, from other Mom's during playdates, at the grocery store, everyone comments on how beautiful, cool and natural they look!  These are not fake nails of old, Jamberry Nail wraps are a chemical, latex free, salon quality nail wrap that bonds to your nail with heat and pressure to give you a water tight seal. You get a salon quality look for a fraction of the cost!

Here's how it works:

  • Clean unpolished nails with alcohol wipes (I actually skipped this step and it still lasted 2 weeks!) and push back your cuticles
  • Match a nail with the nail wrap that will fit best
  • Peel off the nail wrap and warm the back of it with a hair dryer, just 10-15 seconds until soft
  • While still warm press onto your nail, no worries if you got it crocked, just lift it up and reapply, then press around the edges
  • Trim the top and file downwards
  • Apply heat again for a few seconds to make sure it sticks and you are done!
The first time definitely takes a little getting used to the routine, but on my second application I was a pro and done in less than 10 minutes!

Since my nails are so short I actually cut the wraps in half so I didn't waste them and extended the use!  You'll have a few leftovers and I was thinking if you had a matching polish at home you could even just put a wrap on your ring finger for a cool look! (remember the polish will chip and wear long before the wrap though)

Not just for adults either, there's Jamberry Juniors for girls, how awesome would it be to have a Jamberry themed birthday party where all the girls came to the at home "spa" and got their nails done??

If you have ever thought about a career in direct sales you will definitely want to get in on the ground floor with Jamberry Nails!  I hope there is a consultant near me, I already have a slew of Mom's, friends and co-workers that are dying to attend a party! Contact Alisha Pierce at alisha.pierce@yahoo.com to get started TODAY!

Who would love to be a Jamberry consultant or love to host a party??

A Healthy Heart

Did you know Canada..  If you are serious about maintaining good cholesterol and a healthy heart, you need to know every possible bit of information you can use to help you achieve this important
goal. And if you are at risk for heart disease or stroke, this need for information becomes even more vitally important.

You know that if you are at risk then you are quite literally fighting to stay alive. When it comes to fighting the good fight against cholesterol and heart disease, there are a number of measures you can adopt to give you maximum protection.

For one, you can stay healthy by maintaining a good level of cholesterol. This means eating right. In other words, stay away from fatty, greasy, cholesterol filled foods! If it means not being able to enjoy a second helping of pasta, burgers or bacon, we can live with that right? You've got to do what you've got to do, in order to maintain the health of your heart.

If it means waking up in the morning to spend 15 looooong minutes doing jumping jacks and sit ups, you'll just have to grin and bear it. In the end, a good diet and constant exercise are two of the biggest factors in keeping your heart healthy and avoiding heart attacks and strokes.

If, despite all your precautions, you still find yourself at high risk for heart attack or stroke, there is something else you can do. You can also buy Lipitor. This amazing medication has been shown to reduce the risks of high cholesterol.

How are you keeping up the good fight?

Tooth Tunes Toothbrushes!

Did you know Canada..  you may remember back in April we attended the launch of Arm &
Hammer Tooth Tunes toothbrushes!

Arm & Hammer Tooth Tunes toothbrush plays two minutes music to encourage longer brushing and ensure kids follow the recommended brushing time, so no more timer set-up and unwillingness to brush.

Enjoy a party with Arm & Hammer Tooth Tunes, the only toothbrush with Music in Your Mouth technology which streams music sounds from the bristles of the toothbrush to the teeth, straight to the head, allowing kids to hear music during brushing. For kids from three to five there are some super fun songs available -
“We Found Love” performed by Kidz Bop™
“Good Feeling” performed by Kidz Bop™
“The Alphabet Song”
“Brush-A-Long Song”

My boys have been using ones with "The Alphabet Song" and they love it!  As Mom, I love that they have been looking forward to brushing their teeth every morning and night and continuing until the whole song finishes - yay!

For kids ages six to twelve, each toothbrush has one of the following top chart songs:
“What Makes You Beautiful” performed by One Direction
“One Thing” performed by One Direction

Seventh Generation and cleaning green

Did you know Canada..  According to a recent survey, 93% of Canadians would choose green versions of household cleaning products (NMI 2012)!

Thankfully there are now products like those from Seventh Generation.  Seventh Generation is designed with the environment, and you and your family’s health in mind.  Seventh Generation’s impressive roster including diapers, plant-based cleaners for the kitchen, bathroom and laundry, and plant-based baby and personal care for the whole family.

I love their products for the bathroom, especially the toilet bowl clean, so many of them are so stinky and powerful, I had one that the kids refused to use the bathroom for ours afterwards it smells so chemically.  Using the Seventh Generation clean has been so much easier, it cleans well and doesn't leave stinky chemical smells behind.

You know we are all things baby here and have enjoyed trying their line up of baby products.  Their baby wipes are free of chlorine processing, fragrances & dyes, alcohol and they are hypoallergenic.  It's great to know you are taking the best care of your baby's skin as you can.  They are also soft and do the job as you expect.

They also have a nice baby wash series with shampoo, wash, bubble bath and lotion.  It includes a nice fresh and very light scent.  It contains no parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances and is hypoallergenic.  Works great, no residue and we came out clean and sweet on the other end. :-)

Do you choose green products for your home?

Ddrops for the whole family!

Did you know Canada..  I take my family's health seriously and that includes taking vitamins.  Through my pregnancy and now post-partum I am on a lot of vitamins to get and stay healthy for my kids.

One of those vitamins I take is D.  Vitamin D is a natural building block for the repair and maintenance of the body.  Essential for development and continued health of bones and teeth, it was plays an important role in maintaining the health of your immune system, cardiovascular system and brain and central nervous system.

You might shrug and say it comes from the sun though - but you would be surprised to know vitamin D is not made in winter sunshine, in shade or through clothing.  Sunscreen (which is VERY important) also reduces vitamin D production.  In fact, 1.1 MILLION Canadians are vitamin D deficient!

Thankfully Canadian company Ddrops covers the whole family with their award-winning Ddrops line up.  All preservative-free and just 1 drop per dose, it's so simple to take.

Since birth our newest addition has been taking Baby Ddrops 400 IU - designed for breast-fed babies and very easy to administer.

I've just recently introduced my older boys to Ddrops Booster 600 IU - this new dose of 600 IU/drop matches Health Canada's Recommended Dietary Allowance.  It's tasteless, sugar-free, the boys think it's kinda fun, it doesn't get dropped on the floor 5 times before it makes it into their mouth, love it!

For me, I take Ddrops 1000 IU - easy to take, with my current big line-up of pills I love that this is just a simple drop and I know I'm taking care of me.

I love what an open, supportive and fun company Ddrops is, you can find them on Twitter and Facebook, always available to answer questions, they support pregnant Moms, breast-feeding Moms, they share crafts and educational resources on the Ddrops Booster profiles - what an awesome company to be supporting while they take care of your needs.

We have an awesome surprise for our Canadian readers!  Enter below for your chance to be one of two winners to receive two Ddrop products of your choice, so your whole family can enjoy the benefits of vitamin D!

Spring Trends with Luxe Box

Did you know Canada..  The beauty team at Loose Button have been working with Steven and Chris from CBC to create the Spring Luxe Box, and it's a good one!  A Luxe Box is a seasonal mail out with 7-8 deluxe size beauty samples, I've received these in the past and have found some awesome products that I now buy all the time.  It's a great way to be introduced to new products without spending the big bucks for full size bottles.

Arriving in a awesome shaped box, especially for us that get our mail delivered to community boxes, I also loved the bag the deluxe samples where stored in, both can be repurposed.

First up was browsing the Spring Trends 2013 booklet which gives you info on the products that were sent out in the Spring Luxe Boxes (you do not receive every product listed, everyone gets 7-8 of the available products, so you might end up a bit sad that you didn't get one of the products listed).

Here are my favourites from the box..

Moroccanoil's Body Buff - I'm a huge fan of Moroccanoil's hair products, which I first sampled from Loose Button and have been purchasing ever since.  The body buff arrives at the perfect time for spring to buff away our dull winter skin, because we are ready to shine!

Pandora's Makeup Box Mascara - which, check it out, is Made In Canada!  Developed for sensitive eyes and an exceptionally long handled brush, it goes on easy and really is clump free.  I also loved the clear strip on the side so you can see when it's running low.  I was glad to try this mascara, because at $19 a tube, I would have been hesitant to purchase it, but now I know it's a great product.

Eternity Aqua by Calvin Klein - I shared this one with my Mom as she is the queen of perfumes, she thought it was nice, light and refreshing.

Blending Sponge - this was a fun treat, not something I would purchase on my own thinking it wouldn't make a difference, but it does, it works fabulous at blending - can be used with liquid, cream, loose powder or pressed powder makeup in a bouncing motion.

I also received..

Lancome's Genefique Youth Activating Serum - while I know an expensive product, this one doesn't do much for me, and I already received one in the Loose Button Advent Calendar so it wasn't much of a treat.

Blue Lagoon Iceland rich nourishing cream - while just kind of a bonus item, I thought the sample packaging was silly and there wasn't enough to really see if it made a difference to your skin or not.

Chroma Captive by Kerastase - great shampoo for colour treated hair, no complaints there, but the price point is extremely high for a full size bottle, I personally wouldn't be able to afford it as a daily shampoo.

Are you a Luxe Box subscriber?  What did you think of the Spring Box?

Have you heard? Softsoap* skin is in™! #BodyBliss #Softsoapskinisin

Did you know Canada..  We received a beautiful basket of Softsoap*’s 2 unique lines of Body Wash, their Fragrance and their Body Butter collections.

The Fragrance collection provide fruity and floral scents that can wake you up in the morning and make you feel like a human again after a grimy day at work or with the kids.

The Body Butter collection is rich and delightfully creamy, beautifully scented and your skin feels amazing after use.

Our current favourite, and the one you can see in use in my shower, is the new Citrus Splash & Berry Fusion - this is a moisturizing body wash with moisture beads that smells SO GOOD, the whole family loves it, though I would like to keep it for myself!

Softsoap* offers the absolute best of both worlds, providing ultra-rich formulas and truly irresistible fragrances to make showering a sweet experience instead of another chore.  With a new baby at home I won't tell you how many times I've already been covered in milk (and other unmentionables) and it is heaven to sneak into the shower on my own for  few minutes to get refreshed and cleaned up.  On the same note, I can tell you for a fact how moisture rich Softsoap* is, as it has been curing my poor hands that have been doing so much laundry and bottle washing the last few weeks, for that I can't thank them enough!  Sometimes we Moms don't take care of ourselves when we should.  So go ahead, give your skin the moisture it deserves Mama!

We want one of our Canadian readers to transform their shower into an indulgent experience as well, enter below for your chance to win a gift basket full of Softsoap* products, and in the mean time pick up a bottle so you can experience it for yourself, because Softsoap* skin is in™!  Click here to check out savings on Softsoap* Body Wash!

#Upopolis launch at Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre

Did you know Canada..  today I visited the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre (the same hospital I just had my little man at 8 weeks ago, who knew I'd be back so soon!) for the launch of Upopolis.

Founded and created by Kids’ Health Links Foundation and powered by TELUS Health, Upopolis.com is the only private, secure and trusted online social network designed just for children receiving care in hospitals. Upopolis provides familiar features of social networking, such as personal profiles, micro-blogging, instant chat, group chats, multiple photo uploading and event calendars. In addition, the platform gives patients the opportunity to stay up-to-date with their schoolwork, navigate through child-friendly health and wellness information and connect children with similar experiences and interests.

Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre the first to launch Upopolis in Southwestern Ontario, the first launch of 2013 and the first launch of Upopolis 2.0 - full of even more fantastic features like groups where children can connect with others that have received a similar diagnosis - I do believe this is my favourite feature, allowing kids to know they are not alone.

(a great demo by a current in-patient of Children's Hospital)

Free to use, this is a fantastic tool for children to use during their treatment, and can continue to use and connect with new found friends even from home.  Research has shown that fear, anxiety and stress experienced by children and youth in medical care can affect treatment outcomes. The potential for adjustment difficulties is inherent regardless of the particular illness.  Through the power of innovation, knowledge and communication, Kids’ Health Links Foundation’s programs help to improve the mental health and preparedness of children by alleviating their stress, isolation and loneliness.

KHLF and TELUS Health launched the first Upopolis program in 2007 at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton and since then it has expanded to eight additional hospitals and health organizations across Canada. More launches in 2013 to watch for include Montréal Children’s, Janeway Children’s (Newfoundland), Eastern Health Center for Youth Mental health and Addictions (Newfoundland) and Central Health Center for Youth Mental health and Addictions (Newfoundland).

I hope my children never need to use this service, but as a parent I am so happy it's available and know how useful, comforting and relaxing this will be to kids while in the hospital and during treatment.  What an exciting venture with KHFL and TELUS Health, I am so honoured to have seen it welcomed into Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre.

Stay up to date with these great people on Twitter:   TELUS Health: @TELUSHealth, TELUS: @TELUS, Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre: @CHFHope and Kids’ Health Links Foundation: @KidsHealthLinks.

Cord Blood Storage in Canada

Did you know Canada..  with the recent birth of my new little one I read up a lot about Cord Blood Storage in Canada.

Although cord blood storage is still a relatively new process, I hear about many families looking into it these days.  I can see that the benefits of cord blood storage are especially important for families that have a heritage of mixed ethnicities.  Unlike bone marrow transplants, cord blood can be a suitable transplant for people of all genetics.  Families with a history of certain conditions also stand to benefit from cord blood storage, and if your doctor knows your family’s history you will likely be encouraged to consider the benefits of cord blood.

For effective storage and development, cord blood stem cells must be banked using a cord blood program such as Insception Lifebank.  The cord blood collection process is painless, poses no risk to you or your baby’s health, and in no way interferes with your baby’s birth.

Great news - to help make the cost a little easier for you, Insception is offering $100 coupons for its cord blood storage services, which you can redeem by registering with the Insception Lifebank cord blood program. Very easy to do - all you need to provide to obtain a coupon is your name and your baby’s due date (this is so the storage facility has time to reserve a spot for your cord blood sample).  Your coupon is then personalized using your expected due date, which also sets an expiration date for 10 days after the scheduled birth, so in other words, if you do get the coupon, make use of it sooner than later.

Cord blood is a rich source of viable stem cells which are used in clinical trial tests for advancements in possible treatments of several conditions.  Cord blood stem cells have been used to test potential new treatments for conditions such as Type 1 Diabetes, cerebral palsy, autism, spinal cord injuries and dozens of others.  It's a big decision to make as part of your birthing plan, which ever way you decide is best for your family, I am happy we have these options in Canada available to us.

Did you consider storing cord blood as part of your birthing plan?

I was compensated for this sponsored post made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own. Coupons for this promotion are available to Canadian residents only. American registrations are welcome but unfortunately do not qualify for the coupons.

Although as many as 60% of children with brain tumours will survive, they are often left with long-term side effects. Find out more brain tumour facts HERE. Signs and symptoms of a brain tumour (please contact your family doctor if you have any of these symptoms).  Here is a list from the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada website:

Terry Fox - 31 Years Ago Today

Did you know Canada..  31 years ago on today was the first every Terry Fox Run took place in Canada.

In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$500 million has been raised in his name.

This Sunday September 16th is the annual Terry Fox Run. Get involved!

Bourjois Paris

Did you know Canada..  this past weekend was not only the Canada Day long weekend, but also my birthday!  Hubby and I went out for dinner, thanks to my Mom for both the gift card and watching the kiddos, I can't even remember the last time we went out!

Finally a reason to get dressed up and put on some make-up, I was so excited to try my new mascara and lip gloss from Bourjois Paris.

The lip gloss I tried is their new Rose Exclusif, a clear lipgloss that self-adjusts into a unique and personalised pink when applied to lips, how cool is this!  Because the pH of your lips is unique, this lipgloss enriched with pH reactive pigments will self-adjust into a bespoke pink to suit your skin tone!  I admit I was a little unsure when I first put it on, but it goes on smooth and becomes a beautiful shade, I was so happy with it!  I had my Mom try it too, she is much fairer than I (and that's saying something, because I am really fair as well) and it looked completely different on her.  What a fantastic product!

The mascara I tried was their waterproof Liner Effect - this is their best seller, and a must for our humid Canadian summers and snowy wet winters.  I loved how dark it looked with just one coat, the mascara formula is actually enriched with khol to intensify the results and it works!  I loved the info I found on the Bourjois Paris website for the mascara..

The brush has a double action:
Step 1: Use long bristles to stretch the mascara formula from root to tip. Intensely lengthens lashes without clumping.

Step 2: Use short bristles to deposit formula at the base of the lashes, emphasising roots for a liner effect. It will look as though you have used a pencil khol in the inside rim of your lashes, without the hassle!

Perfect!  For a busy Mom that is not a make-up pro, this one tool makes me feel put together and ready for a night out.

Bourjois Paris products are available at Shoppers Drug Marts across the nation and a true investment into making up look great, feel great and be excited to get out on those special occasions!

Lay's Chips - Gluten Free!

Did you know Canada.. Lay's has some great news to share, many of their flavours have been certified as Gluten Free by the CCA (Canadian Celiac Association). Lay’s potato chips are actually the first product to be certified by their ‘Gluten-Free Certification Program’.

In fact, you may not have known, but the majority of Lay’s potato chips have always been gluten free and will continue to be gluten free and as such, taste just great. Any Lay’s potato chip flavours that have been certified gluten free have met the brand’s high standards for quality and deliver the same great taste Canadians expect from the Lay’s brand.

We received a fun basket of chips in all their gluten free flavours like orignal (mine and the kids fav), salt and vinager (oops, another one of my favs), dill pickle (hubby's fav), cheddar and sour cream and more! And we are hear to tell you, YES, they taste exactly the same, a perfect afternoon (or late night) snack, great treat to put out when friends and family are over and as always the quality is obvious in every bag.

Lay’s potato chips that are gluten free can be found at all major retailers across Canada at a standard suggested retail price of $2.99 for a 200g bag or $3.49 for a 270g bag

Be sure to spread the word to any friends or family suffering from Celiac Disease, gluten intolerance or follow a gluten free diet - life just got a little less complicated!

NIP + FAB

Did you know Canada... I love to experiment with make up, but I admit I don't know much about, and therefore don't use, too many "fix-it" products.

When I heard NIP + FAB was now available in Canada (at most Shoppers Drug Marts) I was really excited to try their Dark Circle Fix. With twin boys and my own silliness of staying up to late, this is one "fix-it" I truly need.

I think one reason why I don't go for a lot of these products is that I don't like a lot of goop and don't have anywhere to put all these bottles. I can picture my Gramma sitting at a table in her bedroom with the cold cream and 10 other lotions she used, and while I think there's a lot of magic in that, I unfortunately don't have a nice dressing table in my bedroom and the kids just knock everything off the bathroom counter (plus I only get like 5 minutes to myself in the bathroom anyways).

What I loved about NIP + FAB's Dark Circle Fix is that it's just in a small bottle, it squirts a small amount of lotion onto your finger, you rub it on and that's it! Nothing to clean up, no sticky fingers, the container isn't goopy and neither is the lotion.

With their 3-In-1 formula, it's clinically proven to reduce under eye puffiness and tighten the skin around the eye area. I absolutely, hands down, see improvement. My eyes are not puffy like they were, even HUBBY noticed if you can believe it. I feel fresher and look more awake in the mornings, I am so happy with this product.

The 3-in-1 formula includes..
* red algae targets dark circles
* tetra peptide reduces the look of puffiness
* shea butter hydrates + softens

If you suffer from dark circles or puffy eyes (don't we all), I highly recommend heading to Shoppers to grab a bottle. It's simple to put on, no mess, and the best part - you get results!

We have exciting news - we have one bottle to giveaway as well!  Enter below for your chance to win a bottle of NIP + FAB's Dark Circle Fix - you'll love it!
